Geraint started his singing career early, as a treble with Welsh National Opera, in their productions of La Boheme and Billy Budd. After studying for three years with John Mitchinson at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, he was offered a place on the opera course at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Since leaving the Academy, Geraint’s work as a freelance singer has taken him on tours around Europe, Asia and The United States with some of Britain’s leading vocal groups. His extensive recording experience includes work with the Ambrosian Singers, London Voices and the London Sinfonietta, as well as on many film soundtracks.
Geraint’s solo career has led him to major operatic roles in Mozart’s Magic Flute, and Rossini’s Signor Bruschino, and the role of Ferrando in Camberwell Pocket Opera’s critically acclaimed production of Cosi Fan Tutte. He specializes in contemporary opera, and in 1991, he performed the title role in Geoffrey Bush’s opera Lord Arthur Saville’s Crime. He also starred in the British premiere of John Cage’s Europera V, and has also performed works by Gavin Bryars at the ICA in London.
His wide ranging oratorio repertoire includes the Monteverdi Vespers, Bach Passions, Handel’s Messiah and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. In 1998 he gave his first performance of The Dream of Gerontius with the Dartford Choral society, to great critical acclaim. More recent concerts have included the St. Matthew Passion in London and The Seasons in Stratford upon Avon, both of which received excellent reviews.
For the last 20 years, Geraint has been a chorus member at English National Opera, where he has performed and covered many roles, including the Simpleton in Francesca Zambello’s award winning production of Boris Gudonov, Hermes in King Priam, Ivanov in War and Peace, Autumn in Fairy Queen, Naraboth in Salome, Flute in Brittens a Midsummer Nights Dream and Commander X in ENO`s UK premiere of The Handmaid’s Tale. Last season he covered the role of Camilo and performed the role of Court Guard in the world premiere of A Winter’s Tale by Ryan Wigglesworth.
